It's revealed at the end of the game that the one responsible for the hero's transformation and memory loss was Darkrai. As if that wasn't strange enough, they quickly learn that they also possess a strange power that gives them brief visions of various events. or much of anything beyond their own name. A human who wakes up on the shore to find they have been mysteriously transformed into a Pokémon, with no memory of how or why.
